NO. 1

How has Eczema made you feel through the years?

Let me guess, self hate? Sad? Down? Negative in general at times.

If you’ve felt this then you’re not alone.

What people without eczema fail to understand is that eczema is way more than just a rash,

it affects everything.

NO. 2

How do you look after your 🧠 when your skin is flared?

@LifeOfLowri gets into these mental symptoms.

Did you know the most common form, atopic eczema, affects 1 in 5 children and 1 in 10 adults in the UK.

STRESS.

PANIC.

ANXIETY.

It’s all part of the eczema package sadly.

NO. 3

The reality of living with eczema.

@LittleMissPlumful showing that’s it’s okay to not be okay.

We can get to a place where we’ve accepted our skin but then one day a huge flair can throw us off balance again and all those past negative emotions come flowing back.

This is where trauma comes in, genuinely eczema causes us trauma and a kind of PTSD type panic where we think it’s going to get as bad as it used to be.

If you suffer extreme panic when flares hit, genuinely consider going to a therapist! It’s not dramatic, sometimes it’s needed.

NO. 4

Topical Steriod Withdrawal.

‘Topical Steroid Withdrawal’ (TSW) is an iatrogenic condition, meaning it is caused by medication.

TSW is not a psychological addiction, but a physical, systemic dependency on the synthetic cortisol hormone which is absorbed when topical steroids are rubbed into the skin.

Topical steroids are anti‑inflammatory prescription creams commonly used to treat skin conditions such as eczema.

On top of our eczema casing us stress and all the other things listed above.

The very medicine prescribed to treat our skin is now giving us more stress, like do you feel guilty when you apply steroids because of knowing what TSW is? What if I get TSW!? That’s opened a whole new level of stress for us Itchy Bitchez.

Check out this steriod ladder to ensure you are aplying steriods safely : www.bridgewater.nhs.uk/wp‑content/uploads/2012/11/Steroid‑Ladder.pdf

NO. 5

“Just a rash”

@chloeMayChapman the face of going through it and somehow always finding the small positives along the way.

Eczema can hospitalize you.

“As atopic eczema can cause your skin to become cracked and broken, there’s a risk of the skin becoming infected with bacteria. The risk is higher if you scratch your eczema or do not use your treatments correctly.” ‑ NHS

When I say sometimes it’s impossible not to scratch I mean it. So, inevitably a lot of eczema suffers end up with skin infections which can hospitalize us.

If I’ve got particularly dry cracked open wounds with eczema I tend to before bed apply an antiseptic like Sudo creme as a precaution to help avoid infection.

No. 6

I told you skin conditions affect everything.

@PSOAlice highlights the affects #Psoriasis has on here day to day work, highlighting what she does to look after her skin at work.

No. 7

Our skin protects us and should be celebrated”
