โš ๏ธ IMAGES OF ECZEMA TRIGGER โš ๏ธ Hey its me Katie again, I thought Iโ€™d show you all & tbh to remind myself how far Iโ€™ve come and how much Iโ€™ve learned about my skin and how to care for it.ย

No matter how far you scroll back you wonโ€™t see any evidence of eczema (before 2020) because the reality is I actually used to go so far as to edit out my eczema from pictures. You be using apps to alter your waist size, and eye colours, I was using them to smooth out & blur my eczema ๐Ÿ˜‚

Storytime: itโ€™s 2017. Iโ€™ve just found out I have alopecia & been put on topical steroids for my scalp whilst (used both Betnovate & Dermovate scalp applications). The stress of extreme hair loss Obvs flared my eczema๐Ÿ˜‚ so I was sitting there like wow what have I actually got going for me Iโ€™m gonna be bauld & flakey (ended up going to therapy).

My hair loss was rather aggressive so I ended up being seen by a dermatologist within 2 months (a miracle or so I thought ), in the appointment he was actually way more concerned with my eczema than my alopecia. I went away from that appointment with the largest prescription I had ever received and was prescribed multiple topical steroids (for alopecia and some for my eczema). I hate labelling things but looking back this could have been the one point in myself where I experienced a TSW.

Within weeks suddenly the steroids were making my scalp redder, more inflamed and doing no good and my eczema suddenly exploded all over (I didnโ€™t take any pics as I hated the eta I looked). I was extremely stressed & tbh depressed at the time I couldnโ€™t sleep till I was physically exhausted (7am most days), and in the darkness of night Iโ€™d be at my weakest and obsess over how I looked and often apply my steroids and creams. Nothing would make my skin or scalp feel any better. What people describe as zingers I’d experience mainly on my scalp all over this like electric feeling pains.

After 3 months of using all those steroids  I decided to stop and go down the holistic root, luckily for me I worked in Nuffield health and had experts around me daily who helped me figure out my diet and encourage me to exercise.

I ended up cutting caffeine out, keeping a food diary and exercising regularly. I also removed myself from where I was living as that was a significant cause of stress for me (controlling flatmate). Since then my skin & hair has been better than ever, you all know I experience a lot of flares but Iโ€™ve never experienced that dry-cracking flakey hands since finally understand and accepting my skin.

Iโ€™ve gone from hiding my skin to full-on showing it off,

Mindset is everything.
