SKIN POSITIVITY: Accepting my skin doesn’t mean I am giving up on healing it

1–2 minutes

Brain dump 🧠 inspired by the Chat @SpottyLittleThing had with @FayekFace at her #SpottyLittleSummer Event ❤️‍🩹

They were talking about how another account/blog had said by accepting your skin your giving up trying to heal it and are keeping your skin bad for the clout.

This tells me that person probably has never had a skin condition and doesn’t understand we can’t always control our flares. Whilst I’m talking about eczema flares and that account was talking about acne, I still know enough to say not everyone is lucky enough to find the combo that works for them.

I struggled for years with my skin and still get horrible flares that I can’t control. Skincare/skin management ain’t about finding a cure/miracle routine/cream it’s about making small changes that make a big difference.

And for me, one of those changes was accepting my skin. I’m not giving up on trying to heal. I am being strong enough to say I’ll be okay if it doesn’t. I no longer wished to panic and run to the doctors/shops every time I flared.

For my own anxiety and health, acceptance is a HUGE part of physical healing.

Acceptance, breaking that stress itch cycle.

Skin positivity is about confidence, self-love and reducing the stigma and shame that can be associated with visible skin conditions such as acne/ eczema.

Sadly that account completely misunderstood what we mean by acceptance.

Skin conditions are normal.

We can’t always control them.

We are not defined by them.

Skin health is the goal;

flawless skin is not.
