Abeola’s SKIN STORY – sharing for #EczemaAwarenessMonth

I’ve had eczema since I was really young. I can remember oily baths and greasy ointments.

𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 – 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄?

I remember hating getting ready for school because mum would make sure I had the greasiest, shiniest face every morning for school. I hated it so much but I didn’t realise how much I needed them. So I got myself ready one morning and decided I wasn’t using any of that greasy yucky stuff. The dryness got real by the first playtime. I must have looked like Casper the friendly ghost by the time I got home. Not only was my skin dry and flakey, I was so uncomfortable.

From then on I  learnt my lesson.

Moisturising is everything!

I am biased but it has to be Derma Warrior only because  I created these products to give myself relief for my skin conditions. My ride-or-die has to be the TSW Zinc Balm. But my favourite product from the range has to be the Nourishing Body Oil, which makes my skin feel so soft and smooth.

You’re not alone, I’ve learnt so much from this community online. There is so much happening behind closed doors so be kind with the words that you speak, everyone is going through something. ”Let your words be like a gift wrapped with kindness”.

Stop comparing yourself and your journey to others. Remembering that I am unique and that my value doesn’t lie in how my body looks. Affirmations help me a lot. I’ve had to clean my relationship groups, don’t be afraid to let go of toxic people, it helps I promise.

Take each day as it comes. Do your best to eat well, move your body and surround yourself with great company, for days when it gets all too much.

IT’S NOT CONTAGIOUS. Looks can be deceiving. Sometimes our skin can look great but can feel itchy and uncomfortable.

Steroids are dangerous and they don’t tackle the root issue. When dealing with skin issues I prefer to take the holistic approach. I believe working on the internal alongside the external using non-toxic products on the skin helps reduce your toxic load. I like using products with natural butter and oils. Some ingredients won’t agree with everyone but I love colloidal oats. It’s really soothing. And vitamin pro b5 also known as d- panthenol, which helps draw moisture from the air into the deeper layers of the skin.
