Blemish (blem-iSH): a mark or flaw which spoils the appearance of something.

Whether itโ€™s a birthmark, eczema, vitiligo, moles, scars or other markings… it can be difficult to find the beauty in being different. Beautifully Blemished helps children see the unmatched beauty in their uniqueness and provides an understanding of various skin conditions.

CAN WE ALL JUST SAY A HELL YESSSS TO THE AUTHOR ๐—Ÿ๐—˜๐—”๐—ก๐—ก๐—˜ ๐—ฆ๐—ง๐—จ๐—–๐—ž๐—˜๐—ฌ. Thank you for creating this amazing story, over the last few years, I have been soo happy that there have been references to Eczema in films/ tv and media; I remember sitting watching Netflix and being caught off guard by an eczema joke here and there. It’s incredible to see such a common skin condition finally being mentioned especially from a young age.

Early education about skin conditions is key to well-being, understanding, and helping kids understand their own as well as others’ visible differences make them UNIQUE and NOT THE VILLIAN. From Darth Vader in Star Wars to Scar in The Lion King, creators have long made a link between physical disfigurement and evil.

Sadly,  research by @changingfaces found:
๐ŸชžOnly 1 in 5 people with a visible difference have seen a character who looks like them cast as the hero in a film or on TV.

๐ŸชžEven fewer (15%) have seen someone with a visible difference playing the love interest on screen.

๐ŸชžNearly double (39%) have seen someone with a visible difference cast as the villain or โ€œbaddieโ€.

So, once again thank you to ๐—Ÿ๐—˜๐—”๐—ก๐—ก๐—˜ ๐—ฆ๐—ง๐—จ๐—–๐—ž๐—˜๐—ฌ for changing the narrative and creating such a beautiful book. I felt seriously overwhelmed reading it, she has such a way with words and the visuals portray the story so perfectly.

It has the perfect balance of education and uplift to ensure kids will enjoy and I hope kids will read this and scream โ€œTHEY LOOK LIKE MEโ€. The more this happens, the fewer questions people will ask, and the easier it will become for sufferers to accept their skin. Nobody should ever feel like less of a person because of the way they look.ย

Let’s aid in bringing much-needed awareness and a change in society’s narrative of what “beauty” is and what it looks like.

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again!
