As we fully enter the summer period, I want to remind everyone we all have the power to help others feel more comfortable in their own skin. I can happily say that personal contact and shared experience have helped me way more than all the topical treatments.
Skin conditions are common.
In fact, more people in the UK have skin conditions than don’t, so we are the majority. Making uneven, flared, and texture skin types the norm… so why is it brands decide to show the minority to the majority in their marketing? rather than representing reality? to sell their products and promise the unachievable.

We don’t often see close-up, non-edited, highly detailed photos of skin textures online or on social media. I know this has affected me, I’ll never forget the day I got my iPhone 14 and hated how I could see all my pores and immediately started scrolling for a product to help reduce them.
Everyone has different genetics, oil glands, and hormone levels and therefore will have differences on their skin!! Having pores is normal!!
We need to normalize and realize that there isn’t one standard and type of skin we should idealize and place on a pedestal.
Our skin is not one size fits all.
We all have different and varying degrees of skin conditions, texture, discoloration, and scars that tell the story of each individual.

Normal skin is dry for some people and oily for others. Or even a combination of both…
Like the body positivity movement, it can be challenging to come to terms with your own skin when beauty brands are constantly coming up with new products to solve problems you didn’t even know you had, and remind you of the ones you’ve always been insecure about.
It’s about representation.
If you don’t see yourself in any beauty campaign/ online, you start to think you’re not beautiful.
You start to think you have all these problems and it can make you feel like you don’t belong in your skin.
Beauty brands want to make you believe your skin is the problem, but it’s not. It’s self-confidence.
You can (and should be) self-confident at any size, any weight, and in your own skin, on good days and bad.
This summer let’s show unedited images of our skin and empower others to embrace all their beautiful, unique skin types. I’ll never forget the day I saw a girl rocking her full flare and felt instantly inspired to do the same. I thought if she can do it, so can I.
Seeing her taught me, if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.
BE THAT GIRL, inspire others 🦋
