#EczemaAwarenessWeek : “It’s hard to let anyone love you, look at you, kiss you etc. when you feel and look disgusting.”

2–3 minutes

– A heartbreaking response to a recent study conducted by @bsfcharity but sadly a place I’ve been myself before.

When your skin is bad, it almost consumes all your senses. From, the way it looks, feels and even smells of the creams and treatments a lot of us have skin-related trauma. The scent of a certain cream can take us back to a dark place or even the sight of a slight flare can spiral us into a negative cycle of worry that it’ll become as bad as it once was.

What I am describing is me before I sought help, me before I started talking and sharing, simply an unhappy @mackies_moments. For me, the best thing I ever did for my skin was prioritize my mental health over my physical health.

Instead of panic-purchasing anything that said for eczema-prone/ dry/sensitive skin I could in the skincare aisle, staying up till silly hours checking to see if my flare was getting worse, I started sharing online and reaching out to others and eventually went for CBT and later hypnotherapy with @jenniferaustinhypnotherapy.

Honestly, the best thing you can do sometimes is try to gain a little control of a completely uncontrollable situation.

I learned to control how I react to a flare, rather than despair, I start my little routines and remind myself I am doing everything I can to help myself.

The worst thing is obsessing and trying to find a trigger or cure for something that we can’t. The skin is your largest organ and the first thing that others see daily, so if you are unhappy with your skin, then it starts to severely affect your body image.

Does changing 50 times before going out during a flare sound familiar? me too.

Whilst talking to others can help, there comes a point where you may feel you want to have help learning more or even coping mechanisms for anxiety or the ups and downs of living with eczema.

REPEAT AFTER ME; I AM NOT TO BLAME FOR MY FLARES.

Love always, @mackies_moments & @jenniferaustinhypnotherapy ❤️
